WHAT HAPPENS IN THE STREET ...

STAYS IN THE STREET. As I said last night there are a lot of parties in our cul-de-sac. These are normally late night, after the little ones are in bed - it's 'the circle, within the cul-de-sac' fit only for cigar smoking, snacks and chit chat of all things adult related with good friends ... and the occasional baby monitor going off. Today was par-tay no.2 for the 4th of July weekend. It started in the afternoon, it was one huge potluck and barbeque. There were lots of families from neighboring streets and more children than I could count running around. I put on my brave mummy panties and took Marisol and Flynn out into the street for a while. The next door neighbor's daughter immediately took over the reins of Flynn while I chased Miss M around. After about an hour of cookie eating, splashing red wine all over my arm from running out into the street and Flynn eating way too many snacks off the ground it was time for us to head inside. Once the little ones were in bed I headed outside one last time to watch the fireworks over the bay with the rest of the neighbors still out enjoying the warm night and a few beverages.
Marisol took a liking to this little garden bed and would take all of her snacks in there to eat on her own. She just loves being among flowers. Flynn on the other hand was more than happy to sit in the gutter eating and shoving his hand in a cup of water with my 2 helpers watching over him.
This was my potluck dish for the party. They were delicious and super easy to make and were somehow thought up in my own little birdie brain at lunchtime - which of course meant a quick trip to the store for ingredients a half hour before the party started.
Ingredients:
- Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry
- can of Ambrosia Devon Custard in 15oz Can
(1 can fills approx 18 pastries)
- can of diced pineapple
- fresh raspberries, blueberries, strawberries (or whatever fruit you want to use)
- white or regular chocolate to grate over the top (I used Chocolate Flake Bars: Pack of 6
which crumbles easily over desserts)
1. Cook the puff pastry according to the directions on the packet - normally takes about 20-25 mins
2. Once cooled a little remove the tops and spoon custard into the hole leaving a couple of millimeters at the top.
3. Add your favorite fruit
4. Grate chocolate over the top.
5. ENJOY, ENJOY, ENJOY!

yum! you are so creative...I so could not have come up with that on the spot.
Quite jealous of the neighborhood street party, too. I grew up in a small, close knit neighborhood, but my hubby grew up on 20 acres...so we compromised...live semi-rural on 1 acre. We have nice neighbors, but its no "neighborhood." I miss that...

Anything with custard in it, is A-Ok in my book! Have you tried Bird's Custard powder? I always have some in my pantry. I could eat it straight out of the pot.
